A collaboration with Matt Bollinger (who made the drawing of the embroidery). The sculpture of the door aligns with the original door, visible on the facade of the building. The project accompanies “Replacement Wood-Burning Stove...” and is a response to the connections between Dickinson, the Fine Arts Work Center and the Hawthorne School. While working on this project, Gordon and Bollinger encountered an informational placard at the Pilgrim Monument Museum, which stated that Dickinson hung a sign next to his exit that read, “Turn off the stove.”

"Replacement Wood-Burning Stove for Edwin Dickinson’s Studio"

A collaboration with Matt Bollinger that includes the paper stove, the paper tools hanging to the left of the stove and the drawing hanging to the left of the tools. This installation pairs Bollinger’s fascination with former Provincetown artist Edwin Dickinson (who once kept his studio in the Fine Arts Work Center when it was formerly Days’ Lumber), with Gordon’s interest in the Hawthorne School (the site of the original iron stove and accompanying rusty tools on which Gordon’s paper versions are based). Gordon’s paper stove is attached to the studio’s original chimney. Bollinger’s drawing is a response to Dickinson’s paintings of brigs stranded in ice, and is based on sketches he made while observing the model of the Rose Dorothea at the Provincetown Public Library.

A meditation on the nature of period rooms. While Gordon flips through a catalogue of the period rooms of the MET, she recites passages from Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman, Jr.’s The Decoration of Houses.

A whim. Gordon has a secret affinity for trap doors since living in her first apartment, which had a trap door with a nautical-themed room below. In response to her first trap door, she once threw a party which only two people attended.
